Lately forgetting had become a daily event. Ever so frustrating, I was determined to get to the bottom of why. Many times once we find out why something happens we can unfold the remedy! In my searching I realized that even my underlined health issue had forgetfulness as one of the symptoms, that’s the logical explanation but there are many other reasons we forget. There are 3 vital reasons we find ourselves frustrated with forgetfulness!

1) We have become notorious for multitasking.

2) We have moved away from health diets that nourish memory

3) We don’t drink the amount of water our bodies need to keep our brains lubricated to function well. Strange but true

Watching TV one day, I saw an interview with Marilu Henner one of the few people in the world that has what they refer to as a Super Memory! She never forgets anything. She says remembering can be as simple as filing. Those of us that are familiar with filing understands that in order to put your hand on a document when needed it must be filed correctly. It’s more time consuming if something has been misfiled. It doesn’t mean you won’t find it, it just means it will take you much longer. Our memory is very similar.

I have been known by some as the person that attaches importance to dates. That’s a filing system. I’ll remember dates that occur close to something I find impossible to forget. So I’ll remember things in reference to that important date. So allow me to share my recent find for improving memory or shall I say decreasing forgetfulness?

5 Simple steps to a better memory

1) Be present in the moment= many times we forget because our minds were else where at the moment we were doing something. Instead of focusing only on what we are doing at that moment, we have several things cooking in our minds at the same time and the only thing we remember when it’s done is the very thing we’re doing then. Stop- focus clearly on your surroundings, put your mind in the present moment only. If need be make notes of the task you’re suppose to be completing so you won’t wonder off to the next project before you complete this one. Just in case you do and you find yourself saying “what was I about to do” with no clue? Pick up the paper and it will put you back on task. That’s what posteds are for!

2) File the information in your mind with a marker of importance. Such as I put my phone on the table in the kitchen after I talked to mom. When you forget where it is you pull up the filing system= where was I the last time I had it? Oh yea I was in the Kitchen I remember because I was talking to mom while I cooked! Boom, there’s the phone on the table etc.

3) take inventory of your surroundings. Businesses do it so that they can put there hands on everything they have. Just imagine if we periodically that? We’d locate things we’ve bought several times over, because we forgot we had. As you locate, file by association for objects but for documents actually get a filing cabinet and file accordingly. Associate the object at hand with something of importance or relevance.

4) Add more water, vitamin D & omega 3 to your diet; all three promote brain health and reduce the chances of dementia & senility. Limit the amount of fatty & sugary foods. I didn’t say eliminate unless you so choose but restricting just causes undue cravings. Exercise is also a major factor in maintaining brain health! We should make time at least 2-3 times a week. Do something fun so that you won’t tire of it too soon. Dance, swim, jog, weight train, aerobics, skating, biking etc. You get the idea.

5) Meditation …..Most importantly we must maintain spiritual health for any of these to work properly. In all truthfulness this should be #1! Thinking positively doesn’t really work without the word. Meditate on the word of God, it helps to de-stress! Stress is another enemy of the mind as well as the whole body health!

3 John 1:2

Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

Isaiah 26:3

Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

I hope you have found this helpful!

Many times we never make the minor adjustments needed to have a great outcome, because we have learned to accept things just the way they are!

I ask you just as I have had to ask myself ; “are you really happy with the way things are?” I don’t know about you, but my answer was “NO”! Are things really bad in my life? “NO”, things are actually going quite well; but they could be going great with some “Minor Adjustments”!

I have accepted the mediocre for so long, while promoting the spirit of excellence in others! As a life coach I help others with health, family & life issues conquering one challenge at a time until they have reached the goal they have set for their lives! How can I do that lest I first be an example of wholeness?

Some things we do quite well and other things we suck at! The truth is if we put effort in one area to achieve greatness it should affect other areas! The same time if we have do some things it will ultimately spill over into all areas of our life!

James 1:8
A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

I know, I know; you’re thinking this all has nothing to do with being double minded. Oh, but it does! Look at it like this, how can we want others to do things just right when we’re the ones to benefit and we expect them to be more accepting of our effort because; “at least we tried”?

I remember teaching my sons to clean a bathroom when they were little, and expecting nothing but perfection! I would make them clean it over until they did it to my specifications. Now I find myself taking all kinds of short cuts. Double minded! Thinking two ways at the same time is confusing! Oh, but if we could get one mind; who could stop us from achieving our goals.

Job 23:13
But he is in one mind, and who can turn him? and what his soul desireth, even that he doeth.

My first client is ME! So I have reached this point in the program that you evaluate everything around you because it’s all relevant. How I keep my car, my house, my mind and even my dogs! Do I pay my bills on time, am I being a good wife! For those of us that still have children living at home; are you being a good mother? Do I go to work on time, am I doing my joy well?

Sounds like a lot but with some “MINOR ADJUSTMENTS” we will shine. As we make these simple yet seemingly complicated adjustments we will find that other areas of our lives will improve. Such as instead of looking for others to do what we ourselves are coming up short in; our improvements will rub off on them and changes can occur without words!

Let’s make these simple changes, take one at a time and master it. Driving a new car feels good, but owning a clean car feels better. Staying in a clean hotel is what we all expect, so living in a clean house is what we should expect for ourselves as well! My failure in the past has been organization, so I spend more time looking for things! I have made up my mind that will be the first thing I try to master as I take this journey to “The Spirit of Excellence”!

Every time I fail and misplace something I won’t give up, but I will take my time, find it and put it back in the place I designated! See minor adjustments, don’t be overwhelmed by your short comings; think of them as teachable moments. I am available as a “Health Coach”, Life Coach” or just a listening hear. I will pray for you as you pray for me, be blessed and remember minor adjustments can lead to great outcomes!

Shift = A change from one position/place to another. A change in place, nature and direction. A group of workers that work in a certain period of time.

Romans 11:23-25

23 And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be grafted in: for God is able to graft them in again.

24For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and wert grafted contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree?

25For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.

I don’t know how many of us are ready for this shift change? We the non-Jews are all considered gentiles; because they rejected the messiah we were grafted in and given the opportunity to take their place as the chosen. Yet our being grafted in doesn’t totally replace or negate their significance in prophecy. Their eyes will be opened and they will receive the truth. Wow, that will be part of the shift change!

I believe at that time our roles will change and we will be give new assignments. Hence the purpose for the sift; to know who to shift! I am so excited about what God is showing me and I pray that we the body of Christ fall into total obedience so we can reap the benefits that God has just for us!

Matthew 1:23

23Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

The whole reason we even have Christmas is to celebrate the birth of Emmanuel! So we must realize that Christ is God in the flesh “Emmanuel” and without him there would be no celebration. So the thought that we could even enjoy Christmas without mentioning his name is ludicrous!

The greatest part of Christmas is singing the songs of praise for the birth of our Savoir! Giving is the way we show our appreciation to him for the people he’s placed in our lives. It’s not about the gifts, but the gifts become an extension of our love toward Him that we show by loving and appreciating others.

So by all means enjoy the decorations, the carols, even the shopping but don’t forget to recognize Jesus! “Jesus is the reason for the season”!

Making a profound stand for what you truly believe in can become lonely at times. You will find occasions when your friends say they are with you until the moment you speak against the thing that so many think they can’t live without. Sin has a way of cleaning up and presenting itself as something you must have and once you surrender you become a slave to it.

Once you have been completely delivered from the bondage of sin you will find that determination becomes your best friend and aids in deterring you from reentering it again. Liberty is such a great feeling and know how Christ loves us will empower you to make the necessary stand. It’s okay to cry, experience discouragement and even anger but what ever you do, don’t turn around and go in the very direction you were just delivered from.

So what, it’ll be lonely at times, it’s worth it; not in the end but even now.

1 Corinthians 2:9-10

9But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

10But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

So go ahead, make your stand. Live your life to the fullest and enjoy every moment you can. Don’t stop serving God and make sure you recognize his voice so you can follow his instructions to the tee!

John 5:5-8

5And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years.

6When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole?

7The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.

8Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.

Sometimes becoming whole is not just that you need an encounter with Christ but that you need an encounter with faith! Desire is the first step. Do you want it and how bad do you want it? The man wanted to blame his surroundings, like we blame doctors, family & friends for sabotaging our diet. Jesus put the responsibility back in his lap with “Rise, take up thy bed and walk”! Which is important for us to understand that Christ wasn’t insensitive but he was motivating the man to have faith. He knew that the man would obey and that obedience is a sign of faith!

I decided I wanted to be healthy and I wasn’t going to expect the doctors to be able to do what only God could. My question to myself was just as simple as the one Christ asked the man in the text; do I want to be well? My answer was, emphatically “YES”! Once you have decided you want to be better than what you feel right now, you will change your eating habits. You won’t continue making unacceptable excuses and you will take control of your health in Jesus name. Which will be symbolic to the man rising and picking up his bed!

Written by Joann Jones

Girl let me tell you Trey just paid my bills and all I had to do was……, girl let me tell you we went to the club and you know……, girl let me tell you….., homeboy let me tell you about the girl who wants to get….., how about I got some money and all I had to do was…., these are just some of the scenarios we as christian take part in with other people that is supposed to be our brother and sisters in Christ or another one is girl let me tell you what you know who told me.

You ever find yourself thinking things, doing things, and saying things that you’re not supposed as a christian, but because true brothers and sisters in Christ that will not hold you accountable for the things you say and do you think that it is okay. How about some of the things that we do, but figured because you were sleeping with the enemy that is alright to to so. So what nobody knows my dirty little secret, so I have gotten away with my wrong doing and the only person who knows is yourself and whom ever you decided to share with because they enjoy hearing about your nasty little secrets and they themselves even partake with you in the things you say and do. No I don’t want to hear about who you slept with, no I don’t want to know who you went out drinking with, and no I don’t want to hear about the lies you have told just in order to get a few more dollars that you don’t even have the decency to paid your tithes and offering on. But your best bet is to keep that money since you did not come by it honestly.

We spend so much time doing wrong, instead of doing right that we forget that the word of God reminds us that we become new creatures in Christ. Once we have said yes to him the old becomes new. Often times we find ourselves falling back into the old ways and habits that God has brought us out of. Instead of walking boldly and being bold for Christ we busy playing this little game called my dirty little secret all the while trying to make others believe we are so holy and not knowing the things that we are doing do not line up with what the word of God says. No I’m not perfect, but I struggle daily to do the right thing because I have a tendency to let my flesh overrule my spirit, which means that something is getting fed more than the other. And whatever we feed the the most of that is whom we become slaves to.

Whether we lie, fornicate, steal, gossip, etc. and these things are done secretly we commit a great disservice to God when we claim that we belong to him, but we continue to sin and think that no one knows what we are doing. The word of God states that whatsoever is done in the dark will be brought to light. We can continue to do our wrong but just know that things we continue to do and that we think no one knows about we surely begin to reveal itself. We can only fool those around us before the real you comes out and the things you are doing. Stop allowing the enemy to use you and stand on the word of God. Quit believing the lie that no one knows what you are doing, someone knows and and not the people that share in the wrong that you are doing, but the one that is praying that you will eventually wake up and become what God has called you to be.

Mark 4:22
For there is nothing hid, which shall not be manifested; neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come abroad.

A Lion doesn’t have to roar for you to know his power!

Sometimes we speak too quickly and we share too much. When success is inevitable words aren’t necessary. The old saying “don’t toot your own horn” really only makes sense in that it refers to humility otherwise as a musical who else would toot your horn? Just thought I’d interject a little humor. LOL…. I believe the key to humility is “quiet confidence. Christ was and is the greatest example of that.

Isaiah 53:7
He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.

That scripture was prophecy hundreds of years prior to Christ birth, yet he lived up to every word. That legacy of humility should be the one we aspire to. Instead of following those attributes that elevate the element of pride. We are a proud nation, yet the bible teaches that pride proceeds a fall!

Proverbs 16:18
Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.

When you are certain of who you are, there is no need to argue the fact with non-believers. We demonstrate more as-surety when our actions scream while our lips utter not a word.

Matthew 27:12-14

12And when he was accused of the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing.13Then said Pilate unto him, Hearest thou not how many things they witness against thee?

14And he answered him to never a word; insomuch that the governor marvelled greatly.

He kept his peace and said nothing, not because he was helpless but because he was all power. Reserve shows strength. As we become more certain of our identity and purpose our lives will be more meaningful as well as fulfilling. Take time to know YOU first, then know your purpose & discover the gift that you bring to the world. Then allow your endeavors to write your legacy of strength and confidence in the one that created you who your are!

Deciding to self improve is an important step to change. What makes change so hard is the complacency with our present positions. Sometimes we mix contentment up with complacency which left unchecked stagnates.

Complacency = a feeling of quiet pleasure or security, often while unaware of some potential danger, defect, or the like; self-satisfaction or smug satisfaction with an existing situation, condition, etc.

Contentment =the state of being contented; satisfaction; ease of mind.

Complacency is when the enemy has lulled us to sleep to keep us in an unproductive state. Contentment is the ease of mind with our present condition as we spiritually prepare for the destination God really has in store for us.

Trust in God makes a better you. We become our best self when worry is removed. Worry can only truly be removed when our relationship with Christ is sure. Once we know who we are in Christ we can become all he intends. You will find yourself seeking to eat, sleep and live your best life.

What you feed your body as well as your spirit the right (righteous) foods it all determines how well we function in the time of crisis. The Holy Spirit is the wisdom we need to guide us in the best direction to achieve the best us we can be!

Start your best life today.

Deuteronomy 32:43
Rejoice, O ye nations, with his people: for he will avenge the blood of his servants, and will render vengeance to his adversaries, and will be merciful unto his land, and to his people.

Don’t ever allow what someone does cause you to take matters into your own hands. God is very capable of rectifying the wrongs done to those that are his. Our commitment to Him affords us a level of protection incomparable to anything man could ever offer!

Even though we live in an unfair world, we are to extend mercy if we want to receive mercy. Just know this our day to shine is a lot closer than you could imagine. Get prepared to shine, meanwhile keep PRAISING HIM! We just need to make sure we are His people and this is His land!
